Xbox tweaks Marketplace, sends out free points

Recently, I have run into a several messages from Xbox Live saying some services are not available at the moment. The only thing I could see was the ‘My Xbox’ and ‘My Friends’ portions of the service, but since it was random and lasted a short period of time, I chalked it up to internet connection issues. It appears that wasn’t the case and Microsoft is trying to make up for any troubles caused to some users.

The outages were seemingly caused by Microsoft configuring behind the scenes tweaks of the Xbox Live Marketplace. Reports are coming in that some users are receiving a message from the Xbox team, saying they have  ”enhanced Game Marketplace to make finding games and content easier.” The message even includes a code for 80 Microsoft points, encouraging recipients to “try it yourself” before the March 2 expiration date. Fingers crossed.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior sells 1,000,000

Proving that a game that focuses on sending bullets through brains is mightier than its middling review scores, Sniper: Ghost Warrior has reached platinum status.

The news comes from publisher City Interactive, who says the game was a labor of love.

“A lot of hard work and dedication by the entire City Interactive team went into the development of Sniper: Ghost Warrior, so we are understandably pleased about the worldwide success of the game,” said Marek Tymiski, CEO of City Interactive.  ”This success is the perfect backdrop to reveal details about some of the fantastic games that we currently have in our development pipeline, including the sequel to Sniper: Ghost Warrior and a couple of unannounced projects.”

What’s even more staggering is that the title was able to amass the large sales tally despite being available only for the Xbox 360 and PC. The PS3 edition, which will include a heap of exclusive content, is coming this March.

Crysis 2 Experience shows gameplay, gunplay and campaign footage

Interested in knowing what Crysis 2 will offer those of you wanting to play its single-player campaign? Take a look at the first part of the Crysis 2 Experience video series embedded above. However, despite the gameplay footage, the awesomely broken New York vistas – and its graffiti-walled underground – and unaware CELL forces wondering what the hell is going on, this is actually part of the campaign; if you want your game unspoiled, then avert your eyes… there’s nothing to see here.

Factoid: all footage has been captured from the Xbox 360 version.

Crysis 2 is hitting shelves next month on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
