EA investigating Fight Night for Kinect

It was only a matter of time before someone had the idea of bringing a fighting game with either PlayStation Move or Kinect integration, or both. We do have Fighters Uncaged exclusively for Xbox 360, but we’re pretty sure no one wants to make that mistake again.

So, it was only a matter of time before someone at EA came up with the idea of integrating the most authentic boxing game with motion controls, and as we speak, the Fight Night franchise is being prototyped for the aforementioned techs, especially Kinect.

“It’s an interesting proposition,” said Fight Night Champion producer Mike Mahar in an interview. “Undeniably at some point we’re going to want to integrate motion controls into our game somehow, whether that’s in a mini-game or a separate game I don’t know.”

“Right now the best simulation experience we can give users is through a conventional controller. I also think that most of our users don’t want to, and can’t, punch for 10 rounds! I just don’t think people are capable of it! If you’re going to make a full fighting game it might be a different experience than a Fight Night or an MMA…”

Added Mahar, “it’s definitely something we’re looking at. We’ve done some pretty cool prototyping. It could perhaps be a mini-game embedded in. Then again with how precise and how robust the movement and motion controls are now, I think we’d be doing them a disservice if we simply said that our version of a motion control game is a mini-game within Fight Night.”

Fight Night Champion is scheduled for an early-March release for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but you can try out the demo releasing on Xbox Live and PSN today.

PlayStation Move coming to PC, possibly

Recent uncovered reports are hinting at Sony’s motion controller, the PlayStation Move, heading for PC via a new project called Move Server. Through this project, game developers, enthusiasts and hobbyists might one day – sooner than you think – be able to create projects of their own reminiscent of the numerous Kinect hacks we’ve seen since its launch.

Senior developer support engineer John McCutchan from SCEA will be hosting a session at this year’s Game Developer Conference (or GDC as we all know it by) in February, and it’s in the description of this session we get that hint of what’s to come for Move: “This talk will bring developers up to speed on developing for the PlayStation Move controller. We will cover developing for the new PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter accessory. We will discuss the new Move Server project that will make it possible for academics and hobbyists to develop software using the PlayStation Move controller on their own PCs.”

Again, with the amazing Kinect hacks we’ve already witnessed, and the Wii remote having its uses on PC as well, it’s only natural Sony would jump on the bandwagon and let tech-savvy people take the hardware for a spin and show us what it can really do.

PlayStation Move Heroes demo coming

Shortly after revealing a new Move bundle for PlayStation Move Heroes, Sony’s confirmed that their motion-controlled platformer would also be getting a demo.

When one fan asked if there would be a demo on the PlayStation Blog‘s comment section, Cristian Cardona, Associate Product Marketing Manager for Sony replied, “Yes … More info on that in February.”

PS Move Heroes will hit on March 22nd.
